Jake is a handsome and loving Border Collie (maybe a mix) looking to make a mid-life career change. He started off as a herding dog on a Virginia horse farm, but it turns out that Jake is not a working dog at heart. Jake goofed around too much and couldn’t resist the occasional prank like sending the horses in the opposite direction! His owner ultimately decided that Jake would be happier as a pet. Now Jake is looking for a place where he can continue to stay active in a more recreational fashion. He would be a wonderful partner for hiking and long walks in the country. He is very people-oriented and will bond deeply to his new guardian; and he will be happiest in a situation where he can work alongside his human for most of the day. He is on the smallish side for his breed, and he is very agile and athletic. This smart boy is sure to adapt quickly with consistent instruction and ample daily exercise.
Jake is in a foster home. His foster mom shares that “Jake is such a sweetheart! He wants to be with you all the time and he simply melts into your arms when you give him love. He has not had a single accident in the house, he stays off the furniture unless invited, and we are working on crate training and obedience training. He walks like a dream on leash– he instinctively wants to be by your side and he checks in frequently. With more training and a safe area he could definitely be an off leash dog. He is docile when meeting other dogs and polite when meeting strangers. He is a young Border Collie, so he needs a lot of exercise. I imagine him running on a big New England property, perhaps with some other dogs and/or children to play with. He does not require constant company, but a life where he is alone for eight hours a day would not be right for Jake. He is such a social boy, he simply radiates love for his family. He has been a pleasure to have in our home and I know he will make somebody incredibly happy.”
