We adopted Mr. Scribbles in September 2012 because our other cat Buddy Love (also a CVHS adoption) was lonely. We fell in love with Mr. Scribbles when we were just visiting CVHS. It took awhile for the cats to adjust to each other, but now they are best friends. They like to wrestle together and look out the window together. They are also a team when it comes to stealing stuff like bread off the counter. Mr. Scribbles is still trying to get used to living in a house because he was a stray. We have to teach him not to go into the trash can and not to eat everything at once or beg for our food. Mr. Scribbles is very playful and loving to everyone. Buddy Love likes to steal things like rubber bands and hair pieces when he’s trying to get our attention. He also likes to meow a lot and be a pain at 8:00PM, an hour before we feed them their second meal. We love them sooooo much and we couldn’t be happier with the both of them.

An update from her adopter:

I just couldn’t wait to share these photos with you. Kolo quickly found a little spot to snuggle down.  We are keeping her in our small bathroom to begin with.  She found the Frogpod which should be full of bath toys but was sitting in the tub empty.  She decided it was a perrrrrrrfect spot for her.  When the kids came home, they were very quiet and calm.  We all sat on the floor and Kolo came out to greet everyone within a few minutes.  She was so happy.  She enjoyed walking along our knees and taking turns trying out each lap.  She settled down in Nathaniel’s lap and fell asleep.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to be part of Kolo’s new family.

His adopter chose him because he is so curious.  Seamus walks on his back legs to see what is going on around him.  He’s a friendly little guy and appreciates time with his humans.

He enjoys nose to nose time with the household dog while he eats his veggies.  Seamus enjoys his kale and keeps asking his owner to buy him an “Eat MORE KALE” sticker!

Hello CVHS!

In December of 2011, I adopted Diego, a yellow lab/pit bull mix from your shelter. I am writing to say HOW MUCH I LOVE MY DOG!!!!!!!!!!!! He is the best dog ever! We are a team, he’s my companion! Diego and my 5 year old cat Stanton are best friends! They nap together, play together, and love each other. It’s sooooo cute. I am so happy that Diego is in my life. He is so loving and caring. He’s my best friend! I’ve attached some cute photos of Diego and our last year together. Please share them with your staff who know Diego… Like I said, he’s the best dog ever!

Update from Sage, now known as Jessie:

We adopted Sage (now Jessie) on November 17. She is doing wonderful!  Jessie goes for a 40 min walk every morning with Adam on our 18 acre property.  She loves to be outside (digging deep in the snow – there’s something in there!).  Jessie is being crated while we are at work and at night and is doing great with potty training.  She is very smart – knows how to sit, shake and fetch so far.   Jessie is making great friends with our boys as seen by the attached pictures.  Her favorite place is by the fireplace.  Jessie also received a new bed and yummy treats from Santa.

Update from Mel:

This is to let you know how Mel is doing since we adopted her early in 2012.  Mel was one of the dogs rescued from a puppy farm in Orange County last December.  In the Central VT Humane Society Autumn 2012 newspaper there was a feature on where Mel came from, as well as a brief article on another dog (Jackie) rescued from this farm (http://cvhumane.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Companion-Connection-Spring-20121.pdf).

Mel has been called Melly Belly since her arrival.  She joined our home near the river where she loves to go swimming in the summer.  Her best friend is a pesky little beagle named “Digger”.  Melly and Digger have bonded and do everything together…including spooning together on their couch.  Mel has been wonderful with our cats, visitors, chickens, and our small granddaughter.  She is a kind, sweet dog who loves nothing more than to stick her nose in your hand as a hint that she wants loving.  This will be her first winter in a warm home with plenty of food and fresh water.
We thank the humane society for all that you do for each and every animal sent your way.  I am also sending a second picture of Melly with Digger.

Update from Cody, now known as Chase.

Hello All!

This is an update on Cody the Treeing Walker Coonhound! We have renamed him Chase and he has quickly become a beloved part of our family. The Barre City Dog Park has quickly become one of his favorite places to frequent and he has run into his old friend Mary Ann, from CVHS, there! He loves to cuddle with us on the couch and go on our multiple mile runs with us.

Thanks to all the CVHS staff for all of your caring and hard work. He loves you guys too!

Updates from CVHS alumni Karla and Luke in their new home!

“We adopted Luke in in February 2012, near Valentines’ Day, and named him Rudy (he did have a surprising resemblance to dreamy Rudolph Valentino.) We took Rudy to 3 classes (where his best friend was a great dane who soon outgrew him!), Walk for The Animals and Dog Days Swim Event.  He so loved playing and socializing with other dogs that we decided to consider a second dog. Every week we looked online to find a perfect match and in November took him for a play date with Karla. It was love at first site and so we brought her home to stay.

Cinder and Rudy get along great, wrestling and playing but also get plenty of snuggle time. Rudy even shares his toys and seems to enjoy showing off his grown-up skills to the new pup.

I just wanted to say that since we adopted our cat (that you named Elmer) back in October, life in our household is going well!  After a week of adjustment (almost like having a new baby in the house, we didn’t get much sleep, but we had a lot of patience), Elmer (now called Bandit, because he stole my heart!!!) has been accepted by our other two female cats, Bella and Blaze and they are all the same age, and playing, sleeping and eating together!  Isn’t that what cats do best?

He is a wonderful cat and I keep telling him as he sits on my lap and nuzzles my face purring that I can’t imagine how on earth such a special cat like him ended up in the shelter.  Luckily we get how awesome he is, and he had a wonderful Thanksgiving and then Christmas with lots of toys from Santa and love from our family and friends.

Thank you for being such a great shelter to give these special animals a temporary home; if I could save them all by adopting them I would.  Instead, we’ll try to donate things from time to time when we can, and our office does give donations to you as well.

I just wanted to give you an update and say a belated Merry Christmas and we wish you more happy adoptions like ours in the New Year!!!  I would love for people to see how successful adopting can be.
