Thursday, January 12th:

It’s a big day at the Adoption Center today!  Many of the dogs from this investigation are now available for adoption.  Please click here to view their profiles.

Tuesday, January 3rd:

Good news! The dogs we got last Friday are doing really well at CVHS.  We’re treating for a variety of nasty parasites, and easing them into eating normal food.  They’re still in quarantine against parvo but we haven’t seen any symptoms.  So far so good!

Friday, December 30th: Central Vermont Humane Society has gained permanent legal custody of 11 dogs as a result of an animal welfare investigation in Orange County.  We began receiving complaints about the living conditions on this property in late November.  Our investigation lead us to a puppy farm with a large number of adult dogs and puppies living in outdoor kennels, with limited access to food, limited shelter, unsanitary conditions, and no access to potable water.

We accepted custody of several dogs right away, and began working with the owners to improve the conditions on the farm.  The owners continued to sell the dogs and puppies, and started to make plans to close down the puppy farm.

Our concern for the dogs at this puppy farm increased as the temperatures outside decreased.  CVHS returned to the property yesterday to work with the owners to get the animals to safety.  The owners agreed to turn the remaining breeding dogs and puppies (with the exception of a single family pet) over to CVHS and permanently close the puppy farm.  We are extremely grateful for their cooperation and their acknowledgement that it was important to do what would be best for their dogs.

CVHS is now tasked with providing medical care, including spay and neuter surgeries, for all of the dogs.  The dogs are currently being quarantined at CVHS while they undergo medical treatment for a variety of ailments.  We need our community’s support in the way of financial donations to provide for their ongoing care.  We anticipate our costs to be in the thousands of dollars. Please make an online donation now, or send a check to CVHS: PO Box 687, Montpelier, VT 05601.

Our goal is to give these dogs what they deserve, by making them all available for adoption within the next month.  Thank you for your support!

Friday, December 16th: CVHS’s animal welfare investigation made great progress in Stage 3 today, with another visit to the property.  Our “boots on the ground” team included local law enforcement, a veterinarian, CVHS staff and volunteers, and several volunteers from other animal welfare organizations.  The team inspected the quality of animal heath, food, water, shelter, and sanitation on the property.  We are currently working with law enforcement to seek permanent safety for these animals.  We hope to update you with more progress soon.

Animal welfare investigations are not easy!  With over 150 staff hours already in this case alone, we need your help to sustain these programs.  The cost of caring for animals with needs like these is huge and they’re worth it!  Please consider making a donation to our Annual Fund in honor of all of the animals like these that we work so hard to save.  Click here to make a donation, or mail a check to CVHS: PO Box 687, Montpelier, VT 05601.  You can also stop by our Adoption Center in East Montpelier to make a donation.  If we raise $50,000 in December, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous donor.  Donate now and make double the difference for the animals!

Tuesday, December 6th: Stage 2 of our animal welfare investigation had limited success.  CVHS currently has permanent custody of 3 canines with various immediate needs.  One is recovering in foster care, while the other two are staying at CVHS to undergo sedated medical procedures on Wednesday.  We cannot comment further at this time as we prepare for Stage 3 of the investigation.  It may be a couple of weeks before we are able to provide another update.  Thank you for all of your ongoing support as we work hard to save the rest of the animals.

We have scheduled a special Foster Care Orientation for Dog Families for this Saturday, December 10th from 9:30 to 11am.  Please contact operations@cvhumane.com to reserve a seat to learn more about this important program and how you can help dogs from this case.

Friday, December 2: CVHS is currently operating a major animal welfare investigation in Central Vermont that is about to save the lives of many animals. Unfortunately we are unable to share any more details at this time. We need your help right away–this case is going to have a giant impact on our resources! In addition to financial support, we need: canned dog food, towels/sheets/blankets, paper towels, dog toys, trash bags, dish soap, and laundry detergent. We are open until 6pm tonight, and from 11am to 4pm on Saturday. We also need foster families that would be able to keep foster dogs separate from children and other pets.

Click here to make an online donation now!

Updates will be posted when available.  Thank you for helping us help the animals!
