A graceful and delicate young dog, India (Indy for short) is one of over 500 animals rescued from a Canadian hoarding situation in 2011. Quiet, gentle and observant, India keeps watch over those she loves and she is affectionate in her own quiet way. She is not clingy and would be a good choice for those who appreciate calm companionship. As a result of her past living situation, India has not yet had the opportunity to learn how to become a cherished family pet. Before arriving at CVHS India had limited training and little exposure to new people and environments; however, this sweet girl is food motivated and ready to learn. India is looking for a special human guardian to guide her and show her the joys of being somebody’s beloved best friend.
UPDATE- India has become a major favorite at CVHS. To aid in her socialization, staff members take her to lunches, meetings, and time behind the front desk. India is still shy with new friends, but she is devoted to those who take the time to win her trust. We love to watch her zipping around in the snow and play bowing to entice her caretakers into a game. If you come to visit her please be prepared to spend some time getting to know the true India. Believe us, she is well worth the effort.
UPDATE- India went on a trial run with a lovely family and their three dogs and two cats. Although she did wonderfully with the people and the dogs in the household, India was a little too interested in the cats and will do best in a feline-free home. The family reported that she is a fantastic dog in all other respects and were very sorry that she was not more compatible with their kitties. They said that she was clean, never had an accident in her crate, and became much more animated as the days went by. They also noted that she is very smart, eager to learn, and responsive to feedback. She did not exhibit any issues with their horses and she showed absolutely no aggressive behavior towards any people or dogs whom she met.
UPDATE- India went on a winter hike with a staff member, a friend and a senior dog. She warmed right up to the new person and was sweet and respectful to the older dog. India used this time to work on basic manners such as heeling on a loose leash and eye contact, and she was an absolute pleasure to have on the hike. India would make a fantastic companion for an active Vermonter, and she would love to go on more hikes in her new home!
Check out India’s new video! She may play coy at first, but she’s a lover at heart!
